A new version of NEC's successful V850 32bit RISC microcontroller is optimised for motor control applications, offering an extensive feature set of onboard peripherals as well as in circuit programmability via onboard Flash memory The single-chip V850ES/IK1 microcontroller is a member of NEC's popular 32bit RISC family

The new device is based on the V850ES core optimised for very low power consumption and high performance.

It integrates optional ROM or single-voltage Flash memory, RAM, an interrupt controller, and timers such as a three-phase sinewave PWM timer, serial interface, A/D convertor and other functions all on a single chip.

Offering powerful performance for a highly competitive cost, the enhanced 32bit RISC CPU core of the V850ES/IK1 features a 31.25ns minimum instruction execution time using a 32MHz maximum clock.

Internal memory can be 64Kbyte ROM with 4Kbyte RAM or 128Kbyte Flash with 6Kbytes RAM.

The single-voltage Flash technology employed enables in-application in circuit programming during production or for firmware upgrades.

The V850ES/IK1 has seven 16bit timers in addition to watchdog and other monitors, making it ideal for inverter applications, and its dedicated motor control function supports complementary three-phase PWM operation with a dead timer control built in for safety.

It is ideal for sophisticated real time control applications and has two four-channel ADCs with 10bit resolution as well as 39 I/O lines with programmable pull-up resistors.

Communications interfaces include two industry standard UARTs with onboard baud rate generators and a three-wire serial interface (CSI).

Other features include built in clock generator with PLL, four-point ROM correction, a low-voltage indicator and a "power on" clear function.

Designed to operate from supply voltages in the range 3.5-5.5V, the V850ES/IK1 is rated for operating temperatures from -40 to +85C.

It is package in a 64-pin LQFP and is available now from Sunrise Electronics.
