NEC's new 32bit microcontroller provides fast processing and dedicated onboard safety features delivering real time performance in critical applications.

NEC's new 32bit microcontroller provides fast processing and dedicated onboard safety features delivering real time performance in critical applications The V850E/RS1 has a high-performance 40MHz 32bit V850E1T controller core and dedicated onboard safety features including 10bit 16-channel ADC with auto discharge and diagnostic functionality, buffered clocked serial interface (CSI), and flash memory with hardware in-circuit error correction (ECC)

It is ideally suited for real-time, safety critical automotive applications such as restraint control modules and dashboard/cluster control.

Critical automotive applications, such as restraint control modules, require fast processing performance to deliver the real-time response needed when deploying an airbag at the instant of impact.

The V850E/RS1 controller core can operate at 40MHz and deliver 54MIPS, providing the best real-time performance in its class.

This new controller's use of Flash memory with hardware ECC greatly reduces the possibility of system error.

Two versions of the MCU are available, one with 256Kbyte Flash memory and 16Kbyte RAM, and the second with 128Kbyte Flash memory and 10Kbyte RAM.

Additionally, the V850E/RS1 MCU's buffered CSI enhances communication with ASICs in the restraint control module to further ensure error-free operation.

Communications include two CAN 2.0B bus interfaces and a LIN-compliant UART.

The V850E/RS1 microcontroller is packaged in a 100-pin 14 x 14mm low quad flat package (LQFP).

These devices are OSEK Volcano compliant.

Engineering samples of the V850E/RS1 MCU are available on request, with mass production scheduled for later in the year.

For customers adhering to manufacturing quality assurance processes, versions of the V850E/RS1 controller that are PPAP, AEC-Q100 and QS9000 certified will be available.
