NEC's new NLT natural light technology combines the reflective technology of a standard TFT backlight with additional transflective components.
This display uses a special external transflective polariser at the back of the display, reducing cost compared with solutions generating reflection within the LCD liquid.
The NL6448BC20-14 has a wide viewing angle (50 degrees left and right) and low reflection.
It can be illuminated to a high brightness level of 400cd/m2 with its two edge type replaceable cold cathode fluorescent backlights.
This module accepts 6bit digital RGB signals plus dot clock and sync and is capable of simultaneous display of 256K colours.
It is electrically compatible with NEC's earlier 6.5in modules, and those from other manufacturers, making it easy to incorporate into existing designs or projects in progress.
The high brightness level and contrast ratio of 10:1 make this display suitable for instruments and equipment used in environments with wide ranging ambient lighting conditions.
Target applications are those where a wide range of different light conditions can be expected - for example medical or industrial products that will be used both in and out of doors.
