Two 3.5in LCD modules come with industrial specifications, making them suitable for applications like handheld instrumentation.

Extending its range of LCD modules from NEC, dedicated distributor Sunrise Electronics has just announced the availability of two new 3.5in modules with industrial specifications making them suitable for applications like handheld instrumentation Both types are based on NEC's proprietary transreflective technology - SR-NLT which stands for super-reflective natural light TFT

In other words, they have a high reflective ratio of 15%, approximately twice that of conventional displays and also deliver a high contrast ratio compared with standard products.

With industry standard quarter-VGA resolution of 240 x 320 pixel these modules display up to 256K colours from standard RGB input.

Industrial products guarantee at least a 2-year phase out notice, unlike the 1-year of consumer products, so are eligible for design into longer term projects.

The first new model is the NL2432HC22-40J which has a high luminance of 220cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 130:1 in transmissive mode and 15:1 in reflective mode.

It has a pixel arrangement in vertical stripes and takes a standard RGB input.

Measuring 63.5 x 85mm overall, it weighs in at only 37g and power requirements are only 50mW plus 384mW for the LED backlight.

The second new model, the NL2432HC22-41K offers similar specifications with the additional feature of a clear touch panel.

This model has a luminance of 200cd/m2 and contrast ratio is also 130:1 in transmissive mode, and 6:1 in reflective mode including the touch panel.

Overall dimensions are the same, but the weight of this module including touch panel is 47 grams.

Both types offer industrial temperature ranges of -10 to +60C (operating) and -20 to +7C (storage).

Sunrise can provide design-in support and advice on interface modules for all the display panels it offers.

The range of NEC active-matrix thin film technology (TFT) flat panel displays for industrial applications is extensive.

These products address a wide range of markets - including factory automation, medical instrumentation, information displays and kiosks as well as in-flight entertainment systems.
