NEC is a leading innovator of USB solutions, having been the first company to introduce USB 2.0 host controller, hub controller and physical layer (PHY) devices.

The standard supports data rates of 480Mbit/s, which is up to 40 times higher than the original USB 1.1 standard.

Complete solutions available from Gleichmann Electronics include the hub controller, host controller, bridge devices, physical layer and transceiver hard macro for customers' next-generation product development.

The hugely increased datarates will support the increased demand created by multimedia applications such as DVD-ROM drives, video cameras and portable storage devices.

Further uptake in such products will drive USB 2.0 to become the standard interface for the desktop.
