Microcontrollers have designs on automotive bodies

A new F-Line microcontroller family has been developed by NEC specially for body electronics in the automotive sector.
High scalability, low power consumption and cost-saving on-chip features make the F-Line the ideal choice for applications like door control units, seating modules, air conditioning control and gateways.
The family is based on NEC's automotive-proven V850 32bit RISC CPU.
High scalability was designed into the F-Line from the start, meeting the application designers' need for high flexibility and choice of variants.
Designs can be based on memory variants from 64 to 512Kbyte (Flash and mask) and package sizes with 64 to 144 pins.
At each stage of the development process, the designer can work with the derivate that best meets application requirements.
A mid-project change of memory capacity or package size is never a problem, thanks to the use of identical peripheral macros and their careful positioning in the different package sizes.
To minimise system costs, all F-Line devices come with additional integrated functions that can significantly reduce the number of external components.
These include an internal reset monitor (power-on clear), a low-voltage indicator for monitoring the supply voltage and a clock monitor that can be combined with the internal ring oscillator and watchdog timer to replace a separate watchdog device.
The entire F-Line requires just a single tool environment.
In addition to a PC-based ICE development tool, there is also a cost-optimised PCMCIA emulator solution.
All F-Line controllers are qualified for the full automotive temperature range from -40 to +125C.
Samples are available immediately.
