Inductorless dual-output offline regulators
The Supertex SR03 Series of high-input-voltage regulator controller ICs is ideal for low-cost low-power nonisolated power supplies that provide a more energy efficient solution than linear regulators.
Featuring an adjustable output voltage of 1.20 to 88V, the LR12 increases design flexibility to incorporate a low current regulated supply running from a high-voltage supply rail with two inexpensive external resistors and two small bypass capacitors.
The LR12 provides output current limiting (100mA maximum) for fail-safe protection system design.
A 5% internal reference is provided, which meets the majority of power supply system requirements.
The LR12 operates normally at only 10uA of quiescent current and can be put into a low power shutdown state by back biasing the output so that it saves power and increases efficiency, in SMPS bootstrapping applications.
"System designers for automotive, industrial and telecom applications are confronted with difficult design parameters while dealing with extreme operating situations.
A linear regulator with a wide operating voltage such as the LR12 is the perfect solution", stated Brian Hedayati, Director of Supertex Marketing.
"We've had a great deal of success offering a 450V input voltage, 10mA output current solution to our customers with our LR8.
With the LR12 we now offer a lower voltage, higher current IC solution for their power management applications".
Other features of the LR12 are: its ability to operate with a very small output capacitor of 100nF for stability whereas others require a capacitor between 10 and 100uF, which reduces cost and save space; and its overtemperature protection provides increased reliability under short circuit conditions.
This product is offered in three different packaging options (TO-92, SO-8 and D-Pak) for design flexibility into different applications requiring different power ranges.
Samples are available from stock.
Lead-time for production quantities is 4 to 6 weeks ARO, priced at US $1.03 for LR12N3, $1.12 for LR12LG and $1.23 for LR12K4, each in 1000-off quantities.
