Module puts DSPs to work on packet
switching
The latest addition to the SurfRider family of access solutions from Surf Communication Solutions is the SR-240M (SurfRider-240M), a PMC module aimed at packet telephony equipment.
The latest addition to the SurfRider family of access solutions from Surf Communication Solutions is the SR-240M (SurfRider-240M), a PMC module aimed at packet telephony equipment such as remote access servers, media gateways, next-generation switches and other types of OEM equipment requiring modem, VoIP and FoIP services The SR-240M provides a complete system-level solution for equipment requiring multi-DSP processing power and includes the industry's leading DSP software called Surf Multi-access Pool (SMP), SMPEngine host interface software, the SMPConnect packet aggregator, and SMPDetect real-time diagnostics

DSP subsystem speeds access solution development
Surf Communication Solutions has announced the upcoming availability of its SurfRider-144T family of access solutions aimed at OEM equipment requiring modem, VoIP and FoIP services.
The SR-240M handles industry-leading channel densities, providing DS3 spans of voice channels, 432 channels of low-bitrate voice coders and fax relay, or 240 universal voice, fax and modem channels.
The different configurations are obtained through targeted SMP software loads.
The SR-240M is a PMC module that enables OEMs to design general-purpose motherboards onto which the SurfRiders are then attached.

Packet telephony software runs on StarCore DSP
Surf Communication Solutions has released its field-proven packet-telephony system solution for Motorola's StarCore-based MSC8102 quad-core DSP.
The SR-240M supports Fast Ethernet, ATM and TDM connectivity.
This modular approach has distinct advantages in upgrading the DSP subsystem as more advanced DSPs become available and reduces development, maintenance and production costs.
The SR-240M is also available as a reference design for OEMs who wish to create customised form-factors or integrated DSP-farms on the motherboards.
The SR-240M contains 12 Motorola MSC8101 StarCore-based DSPs, all running Surf's leading SMP software for V.92 modem, VoIP, FoIP and modem relay over IP (V.MoIP) services.
An additional MSC8101 DSP serves as an aggregator and supports MII, UTOPIA level II and TDM interfaces.
"The SR-240M is the only product on the market that provides complete system-level solution from both system management and performance perspectives, while supporting unified voice, fax and modem services", said Avi Fisher, Surf's CTO and cofounder.
"By providing advanced technologies for channel payload processing, aggregation and packetisation as well as remote diagnostics, Surf successfully addresses OEM's system-level management requirements, simplifying the integration process and shortening time to market".
To enable design engineers to easily evaluate and prototype the SR-240M platform, Surf offers customers a docking station and driver software that facilitate integration with commonly available test and host systems.
Complementing the SR-240M and docking station, the company's SurfView software package completes the development environment.
SurfView is a Windows NT/Windows 2000-based interface program that communicates with the SR-240M over IP networks and is used to load SMP software to the DSP board, configure channels and receive monitor and status information.
