Ericsson is to continue to use Surf DSP modem software in the next enhanced product release of its Cello wireless media-gateway In addition, Ericsson has chosen to integrate the Surf Multi-access Pool (SMP) DSP software in its VoIP-enabled BusinessPhone PBX equipment

The Surf-Ericsson framework agreement covers transcoding solutions for TDM-to-packet and packet-to-packet subsystems.

"We were pleased with Surf's DSP software robustness and professional services support", said Alessandro Pane, Manager of Service Switching and Datacom Applications CDC at Ericsson Lab, Italy.

"Surf's DSP software expertise was of special value in providing robust modem software, a field in which choices of carrier-grade dial-up software are especially limited".

"The integration of Surf's SMPEngine API has been streamlined.

We were able to integrate Surf's SMP to our system within a few days", said Ernst Schrammel, Manager of Competence Area IP-Telephony at Ericsson Enterprise LDC, Vienna.

"SMPEngine assists us to speed Ericsson's development time, enables us to shorten the time-to-revenue and reduce overall development costs of our VoIP-enabled PBX".

"We are proud that Ericsson found (in the previous generation of its media-gateway) our support and ease-of-use valuable to them.

Ericsson's choice to continue using Surf, while upgrading its hardware, is a sign that we have been successful in providing the level of service required by Tier-one vendors of carrier-class network equipment", said Avi Harush, Director of Professional Services at Surf.

"The swift and painless integration of SMP, experienced by Ericsson's PBX group, is based upon lessons learned by many past customers while integrating SMP".
