DSP subsystem speeds access solution development
Surf Communication Solutions has announced the upcoming availability of its SurfRider-144T family of access solutions aimed at OEM equipment requiring modem, VoIP and FoIP services.
"We are excited to have SMP Universal Port available on the Motorola MSC8102 multi-core DSP", said Tim Summers, Packet Telephony Operations Manager of Motorola, "Combining Surf's widely deployed multiprotocol software with the world's most powerful 16bit fixed-point DSP offers a compelling solution across key markets - including the rapidly emerging enterprise market".
"Surf's modular architecture enables effortless migration from Motorola's single-core MSC8101 to the quad-core MSC8102 DSP.
OEMs using both DSPs can benefit from a scalable enterprise or high-density infrastructure solution.
All Surf products are accessed by the same SMPEngine host-based interface, allowing OEMs to standardise via an easily integrated API", said Avi Fisher, VP R and D of Surf.
"Customers who want to include their own value-added features can elect to use Surf's open framework.
SMPFlex allows easily tailoring of additional protocols or complete channels onto the DSP".
Surf is demonstrating its software and hardware solutions at Motorola's Smart Networks Developers Forum this week in Dallas, Texas.
The demonstration consists of a Universal Port media gateway application, running simultaneously on an array of MSC8101 and MSC8102 DSP farms.
Surf's software is currently offered for evaluation and integration, together with embedded or PCI-based MSC810x packet telephony hardware platforms.
General availability of SMP Universal Port software is scheduled for July 2003.
