Mezzanine card farms out eight DSP chips
The SurfRider-812 is a fully integrated high-capacity PTMC DSP farm comprised of eight digital signal processors.
The SurfRider-812 is a fully integrated high-capacity PTMC DSP farm comprised of eight digital signal processors (DSPs).
The SurfRider-812 provides simultaneous triple-play media-processing capabilities for developers of voice and video gateways, CTI applications, media servers, and a multitude of other voice, video, fax and modem applications.
Based on the Texas Instruments (TI) state-of-the-art TMS320C6412 DSPs, the SurfRider-812 can process voice, video, and data (fax/modem) simultaneously, on the same DSP.
It integrates with PCI, Compact PCI (cPCI) and AdvancedTCA (ATCA) carriers.
Applications that support IP-to-IP connectivity, such as media servers and session border controllers, can implement the SurfRider-812 using any of the following configurations: PCI with a single SurfRider-812 PTMC; cPCI, which can support either one or two SurfRider-812 PTMCs (featuring eight or 16 DSPs, respectively); or ATCA, which can support up to four SurfRider-812 PTMCs.
Applications that require E1 (or T1) support, such as media gateways, can implement the SurfRider-812 using any of the following configurations: PCI with a single SurfRider-812 PTMC and a quad or octal E1/T1; cPCI, supporting one SurfRider-812 PTMC and one quad or octal E1/T1 PTMC; or ATCA, supporting one or two SurfRider-812 PTMC(s) and/or one or two quad or octal E1/T1 board(s).
Featuring cost-effective high port density and Surf's patent-pending Open Framework design, the new PTMC board facilitates integration of third-party host applications and shortens time to market.
The SurfRider-812 includes a unique architectural approach designed to streamline media processing.
The control and media paths are separate, eliminating Host-DSP bottlenecks.
In addition, each DSP has a unique MAC address.
However, an optional network aggregation module allows the entire board to be accessed on the network via a single IP address.
The SurfRider-812 can be used in a variety of products, including: voice and video gateway applications connecting mobile, broadband IP, wireless (Wi-Fi/WiMAX), and PSTN networks; CTI applications, such as voice, video, and fax mail, interactive voice/video response (IVR) servers, announcement servers, unified messaging servers, and call recording servers for voice, video, and fax; inter-working function (IWF); and stand-alone termination applications, such as RAS, conferencing servers, voice quality monitoring, and nonintrusive interception and security applications.
"The unique design of the SurfRider-812, wherein eight DSPs are incorporated on a single PTMC board, makes it the best choice for telecom manufacturers seeking high-capacity, flexible, and cost-effective media-processing support for their media gateway and CTI applications", noted Amir Zmora, Surf's VP Marketing and Product Management.
"Surf's SurfRider-812 leverages TI's high performance C6412 DSP to deliver an extremely powerful, cost effective and flexible product that can be used across the telecom industry", said Thomas Brooks, Worldwide DSP Marketing Manger, TI.
"Telecom equipment manufacturers are empowered with the capability to process video, voice and data simultaneously, easing system design and speeding time to market".
The SurfRider-812 PTMC-only configuration, and PTMC on PCI are both available now.
The SurfRider-812 PTMC on cPCI will be released in June 2005 and the SurfRider-812 PTMC on ATCA will be released in Q3 2005.
