The newest version of Synplicity's Synplify and Synplify Pro FPGA synthesis software includes optimised support for field-programmable system-level IC solutions from Atmel.

The newest version of Synplicity's Synplify and Synplify Pro FPGA synthesis software includes optimised support for the field-programmable system-level integrated circuits (FPSLIC) solutions from Atmel With FPSLIC device support and integration with Atmel's System Designer development software, the Synplify Pro software is capable of enabling the rapid design and development of Atmel's programmable SoC devices

Atmel's AT94K series FPSLIC device provides all the logic, processing, control, memory and I/O functions required for low-power, high-performance applications including PDA and cell phone after-market products, GPS, portable test equipment, point-of-sale, security or wireless Internet appliances.

"As more designers adopt next-generation programmable SoC solutions, the development methodology becomes even more critical", said Joel Rosenberg, director of programmable system-level integration at Atmel.

"Leveraging Synplicity's Synplify products in combination with our System Designer tool suite provides engineers with the high-performance tools necessary to achieve their SoC performance and time-to-market goals".

Jeff Garrison, director of marketing for FPGA products at Synplicity, added, "Today, designers face tremendous implementation challenges when confronted with programmable system-level designs.

With the Synplify software's fast runtimes, new high-performance timing engine and device-specific mapping technology, we are able to equip FPSLIC designers with constraint-driven synthesis technology that not only satisfies aggressive performance needs, but allows designers to bring their SoC products to market faster".

Synplicity's Synplify Pro software performs technology mapping of HDL-based designs directly into Atmel's FPSLIC architecture.

The software also produces an FPSLIC-optimised netlist and maps it directly into the Atmel System Designer design environment, taking advantage of the unique device architecture and yielding high-performing designs.

With this announcement, Synplicity reinforces its commitment to providing support for programmable logic families from Atmel.

In addition to the new FPSLIC devices, Synplicity's Synplify software products continue to support Atmel's AT40K and AT40KAL Series coprocessor FPGAs.

The Synplify and Synplify Pro 7.0 software includes many new features that can increase device performance and designer productivity while improving overall quality of results.

The latest version of the Synplify software includes a new high-capacity, high-performance timing engine, allowing the designer to specify more comprehensive and powerful timing constraints than previously possible.

Further, the timing engine enables faster runtimes and the ability to synthesize higher capacity designs.

Additional software enhancements include RAM inferencing and enhanced clock-enable detection.

The Synplify 7.0 software with support for Atmel's FPSLIC devices is currently available.

Current customers on maintenance will be upgraded at no additional cost.
