Segers replaces Kevin Hall of Norwest Venture Partners who stepped down after serving on the board for more than two and a half years.
Prior to joining Matrix in September 2001, Segers served at Xilinx as a board member and senior vice president and general manager of the advanced products group, a multi-billion-dollar organisation responsible for about 70% of Xilinx's revenue.
"Dennis Segers is a recognised leader in the electronics industry, and it is a great honor to have him join our board of directors", said Alisa Yaffa, chairman of the board at Synplicity.

Segers is credited with developing the strategy for the advanced Xilinx chips.
He was also responsible for strategic advanced process technology partnerships with IBM and UMC.
Segers said, "While I was at Xilinx, Synplicity was extremely well regarded by some very tough customers.
I believed Synplicity to be the leader amongst the FPGA designers with the most challenging designs.
I am looking forward to working with the group of people whose high-quality products have earned the respect of so many programmable logic designers".
Segers also sits on the board of directors of Matrix Semiconductor and Octillion Communications.
Prior to Segers' eight years at Xilinx, he was vice president and general manager of Benchmarq Microelectronics, a fabless company specialising in battery management ICs.
Previously, he cofounded and was president of Summit Micro Circuits, which was later acquired by Benchmarq Microelectronics.
Segers also worked at National Semiconductor and Mostek where he managed the product engineering, design and development of advanced memory products.
Segers graduated from Texas A and M University and holds four US patents.
He has served in a variety of industry groups including the SIA Technology Strategy Committee and the ISSCC Technical Program Committee.
