Synthesis extended to IBM ASICs

A Synplicity product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jun 10, 2002

Synplify ASIC synthesis software is now qualified for use by IBM's ASIC customers.

Synplify ASIC synthesis software is now qualified for use by IBM's ASIC customers.

The Synplify ASIC software provides designers with a productivity-focused ASIC synthesis solution that delivers high quality of results and is fast and easy to use.

As part of its support, IBM is integrating Synplicity's ASIC synthesis software into its Blue Logic Methodology Guide design flow as a qualified ASIC synthesis solution.

"We believe the Synplify ASIC software will provide our ASIC customers a synthesis option for meeting their design requirements", said Tom Russell, manager for synthesis methodology at IBM Microelectronics.

"Synplicity's ASIC synthesis product passed our regression tests, and met our performance and runtime goals.

After an extensive qualification process, we are rolling out support for the Synplify ASIC software as part of our forthcoming SA27E and Cu11 library releases.

It is also our goal to work with Synplicity to offer a new, highly productive logic synthesis flow optimised to move between FPGA and ASIC silicon technologies".

"We have been working closely with IBM to qualify the Synplify ASIC software and we are pleased the world's largest ASIC manufacturer now provides support for our software and will include it for customer use through the Blue Logic Methodology Guide integration", said Joe Gianelli, director of business development and strategic alliances at Synplicity.

"The support for our ASIC synthesis software by IBM signals a significant message - customers and ASIC vendors alike are looking for a high-productivity ASIC solution.

With the Synplify ASIC software, we believe customers can obtain the high quality of results they require, with the speed and ease of use traditionally associated with Synplicity's solutions".

IBM joins a growing list of ASIC vendors who support Synplify ASIC software.

Additional ASIC vendors supporting the Synplify ASIC software include: AMI Semiconductor, Chip Express, Faraday, Fujitsu, Lightspeed Semiconductor and Oki Semiconductor.

The Synplify ASIC software is available now for Linux (Red Hat 7.1), HP-UX 11.0, Sun Solaris 2.7/2.8, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 operating systems.

A perpetual license of the Synplify ASIC software lists for US $115,000.

A one-year time-based license of the Synplify ASIC software lists for US $69,000.

Customers interested in evaluating the software can do so with Synplicity's "express evaluation" toolkit, which enables a designer to complete a four-step evaluation of the software, including installation and training, within a day.

The toolkit provides all of the basic information needed to conduct a hands-on evaluation of the Synplify ASIC software including an evaluation copy of the software, a design tutorial, a test case design and all of the necessary design libraries.
