Synplicity has optimised its Synplify and Synplify Pro FPGA synthesis software to provide an easy solution for quickly reaching timing and cost goals for Xilinx's new lowest-cost Spartan-3 FPGAs.

Synplicity has optimised its Synplify and Synplify Pro FPGA synthesis software to provide a fast, easy-to-use solution for quickly reaching timing and cost goals for Xilinx's new lowest-cost Spartan-3 FPGAs With this announcement, Synplicity, a founding member of the Xilinx AllianceEDA programme, continues to provide optimal support for Xilinx's family of programmable logic devices and reaffirms its commitment to provide its mutual customers with best-in-class RTL-based solutions tailored for Xilinx's high-density, low-cost programmable logic devices

"We constantly work with our FPGA customers to help them lower their development effort and bill of materials costs by providing high performance, high productivity solutions", said Jeff Garrison, Director of Marketing for FPGA products at Synplicity.

"We believe this new class of low-cost Spartan-3 devices is targeting a larger portion of the total programmable IC market and our FPGA synthesis solutions are well suited to meet the needs of designers using Spartan-3 devices.

We believe our FPGA synthesis technology, coupled with Xilinx's place and route software, will enable our customers to use lower cost devices while quickly reaching their capacity and performance goals".

"For many years, Synplicity's synthesis technology has enabled our mutual customers to meet their most aggressive design goals for Xilinx's largest devices", said Dave Bennett, vice president of software product development from Xilinx.

"Together with our new 90nm Spartan-3 FPGAs, the Synplify Pro software can have an even more dramatic effect on lowering the cost of silicon by packing a design into a smaller die or meeting timing requirements with a cheaper speed grade.

The savings can easily be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars over production life of the product".

The Synplify and Synplify Pro software helps programmable logic designers achieve aggressive performance and cost objectives.

The Synplify and Synplify Pro software takes designs written in VHDL or Verilog as input, and compiles, optimises and maps them into efficient, high-performance netlists for Xilinx's CPLD and FPGA devices.

The software offers high quality of results and fast runtimes along with an expanded feature set optimised to increase area utilisation for today's complex programmable devices.

Spartan-3 users can directly benefit from Synplicity's FPGA synthesis solutions by enabling them to implement their design into a lower cost device, compared with other synthesis tools.
