Quarter bricks house two independent convertors

A SynQor Europe product story

A new line of dual-output quarter-brick DC/DC convertors with independent regulation can deliver 15A of total output current on each rail simultaneously, without a heatsink.

SynQor has a new line of dual-output quarter-brick DC/DC convertors with independent regulation.

The DualQor Giga series quarter-bricks can deliver 15A of total output current on each rail simultaneously, without a heatsink.

The high-efficiency convertors also feature a very low profile (8.5mm) and industry standard footprint and pin out.

The DualQor Giga series operates from a wide input voltage of 35 to 75V and offers output voltage combinations of 3.3/2.5, 3.3/1.8, 3.3/1.5 and 3.3/1.2V with other voltages to soon follow.

Employing the established industry standard quarter-brick footprint and dual output pin out, the unit measures 36.8 x 58.4 x 8.5mm.

The quarter-brick modules are built on a single PCB with fully automated SMT construction, offering higher reliability and superior thermal performance.

All modules can deliver full load current of 15A on each rail at typical ambient environments of 55C and 200LFM airflow.

SynQor's new dual output quarter-bricks are designed using technology perfected in the company's popular eighth-brick convertors.

The DualQor units essentially consist of two eighth-brick modules placed in the space of a quarter brick.

The simplicity of this design will allow SynQor to quickly develop any output voltage combination required by its customer base.

The high component commonality inherent to this strategy will also minimise costs, increase quality/reliability and reduce lead times.

By using independent power trains and control functions for each output, the modules provide precise output voltage set points (+/-1.5%) and offer very tight regulation for each output rail (+/-1.5%) over line, load and temperature.

Crosschannel interference is virtually nonexistent, even during load transients.

SynQor's DualQor Giga series will feature an optional second trim pin located between the primary trim pin and the output return pin.

The optional trim function will allow each output voltage to be independently trimmed by +10%, providing more accurate voltage margining and custom outputs.

The DualQor convertors have 2000V DC isolation rating and carry a comprehensive set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 and UL/cUL1950.

Control and protection features include on/off control, remote sense, short circuit, output OVP and thermal shutdown.

Sample quantities of the 3.3/2.5, 3.3/1.8, 3.3/1.5 and 3.3/1.2V convertors are available immediately and production volume shipments will begin in July 2003 directly from SynQor and through its network of distributors.

The modules are priced at $87.20 in OEM quantities.

Additional output voltages combinations will be released throughout 2003.
