Half brick convertor puts power over LANs

A SynQor Europe product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team May 8, 2006

A 54V, 5.1A output half brick DC/DC convertor satisfies the power demands of IEEE802.3af compliant power over LAN and VoIP applications.

SynQor has developed a 54V, 5.1A output half brick DC/DC convertor, broadening still further its range of products to satisfy the power demands of IEEE 802.3af compliant power over LAN and VoIP applications.

The PQ5554HTL05 (open frame version) and PQ5554HTM05 (baseplated version) convertors use synchronous rectification and SynQor's patented topology to achieve extremely high efficiencies, low power dissipation and high reliability, in a single board, open-frame or base-plated package (optional).

With an optimised input voltage range of 38-55V, and operating at an exceptional 93% efficiency, the open frame device can supply up to 230W at 55C ambient with just 1m/s of forced air-cooling.

For those applications requiring even more output power, the base-plated option allows the addition of a heatsink to increase the available power to the full 275W rating.

In keeping with the requirements of IEEE802.3af, the device has a basic isolation level from input to output of 2250V DC, and the design has been optimised to minimise common mode noise.

The trim range of -20% to +5% adds additional flexibility for the user to adjust to their desired output voltage.

Other control and protection features include remote sense, input UVLO, output OVP, current limit, short circuit, and thermal shutdown.

Sample and production quantities are available immediately with a stock to 8-week lead-time.

The modules are priced at $87.00 in OEM quantities for the open frame version.
