Symmetry Electronics has signed a contract to add Macronix to its list of franchised IC manufacturers in North and South America.

The terms of today's agreement authorise Symmetry Electronics to promote and distribute Macronix's full line of memory and logic products throughout the USA, Canada, Mexico and South America.

Macronix's product line includes Flash memory, logic devices and a wide selection of microcontrollers covering a variety of applications.

"Macronix is a great addition to the Symmetry line card", said David Bagby of Symmetry.

"They offer a broad family of parallel and serial NOR Flash products that include a 2bit/cell family which is fully compatible with Spansion's MirrorBit".

"Macronix Flash products are designed to be industry-standard and drop-in compatible with AMD/Spansion and ST Micro".

"These cutting-edge products will foster new designs for both existing and new customers".

Macronix will also be featured on SemiconductorStore.com, Symmetry Electronics' online procurement division that is helping to revolutionise the way in which design engineers research and buy semiconductor components.

"We look forward to a strong and fruitful relationship with Symmetry Electronics", said Nancy Fox, Sales Manager for Macronix America.

"We believe that Symmetry will take a focused design-oriented approach to expand our business and create growth for both companies".

Macronix designs and manufactures a broad range of nonvolatile memory and application-specific products for various consumer market applications, but remains on the forefront of the industry by creating customer application driven solutions for the computing and communication markets.

Through partnerships with IBM and Infineon, Macronix hopes to create a new form of nonvolatile memory with unmatched speed and density, called phase-change memory (PCM).
