Board to evolve open-source modelling
Synopsys and the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) are forming a technical advisory board (TAB) to facilitate the evolution of the open-source Liberty library modelling standard.
Synopsys and the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) are forming a technical advisory board (TAB) to facilitate the evolution of the open-source Liberty library modelling standard For the past 15 years, Synopsys has led the industry in library modelling technology as well as in pioneering programmes and initiatives for open source standards

Tensilica standardises on Physical Compiler
Tensilica has standardised on Synopsys Physical Compiler and developed a high-performance reference flow around Physical Compiler for its Xtensa V processor cores.
Given the significant industry-wide momentum with the new Liberty Composite Current Source (CCS) modelling technology, the Liberty TAB has been formed to enable representatives from the design community, electronic design automation (EDA) companies, silicon foundries, and library modelling suppliers to guide the evolution of the Liberty standard.
The Liberty library format is the de-facto modelling standard in the industry with support from more than 60 EDA vendors with over 750 libraries in production.
It has a long-standing history of innovation to address the latest silicon technology modelling requirements.

Power Compiler adds pushbutton power optimisation
Oki Semiconductor has added Power Compiler, Synopsys' pushbutton power optimisation tool for RTL and gate-level designs, to the set of Synopsys tools offered in Oki's advanced ASIC design kit.
Today, the Liberty standard enables accurate and comprehensive modelling of nanometre effects, including timing, noise, power, and test.
In 2000, the Liberty standard became among the first EDA standards to be provided as open source, to foster innovation and interoperability for a wide-variety of EDA applications.
"Si2's members share a vision to leverage broad industry interaction on advanced modelling requirements to create innovative solutions offering greater efficiency in the marketplace", said Steve Schulz, President and CEO of the Silicon Integration Initiative.
"The creation of this TAB further opens the Liberty modelling standard to this broad industry input".
"We firmly believe that this will greatly benefit the EDA and semiconductor industries, and we are committed to working with Synopsys to make this initiative a great success along with our members".
"For many years, Synopsys has worked closely with designers as well as with EDA and IP vendors to help ensure that the Liberty standard meets the advanced modelling requirements of the latest silicon technologies", said Antun Domic, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Synopsys' Implementation Group.
"Having achieved widespread adoption of the CCS modelling technology, we believe that the best way to evolve this technology to meet future demands is through the Liberty TAB".
The TAB will consist of approximately 12 members, each elected for three-year terms.
Member companies will represent EDA, end users, foundries and library (IP) providers.
Requests for enhancements can come from the membership as well as from the overall Liberty user base.
