Founded three-and-a-half years ago to fill a gap in the market, Horizon Global Electronics produces calibration systems for the terrestrial and satellite digital TV markets that enable installers to easily position antennas and dishes to achieve the best reception.
With an established market in the UK and a small amount of trade with the USA, it was keen to venture into additional markets, where it would be able to take advantage of the explosion in digital television.
The company approached UK Trade and Investment, a Government organisation that provides support services for UK companies trading overseas.
The company signed up to the "Passport to Export" programme and Horizon Global Electronics was provided with a diagnostic of its export potential and an export plan.
The company has secured a distribution deal with German company Kathrein-Werke, the largest manufacturer of antenna systems in Europe, which has ordered 2500 units with a value of GBP 500,000.
In addition, UK Trade and Investment trade advisers from the British Embassy in Warsaw arranged meetings for the company with six potential customers, as well as assisting with logistics and providing local advice.
As a result, Horizon Global Electronics has secured a contract with Vector, an ex-state-owned company, for an initial order of 100 units of its calibration systems.
John McLoone, Sales Director of Horizon Global Electronics, commented: "Working with the trade advisers in the embassy was a very rewarding experience".
"The advice and assistance they provided was invaluable".
"Now that we have a foothold in the market we are looking to expand into other Eastern European countries, where digital television is really starting to take off".
"Our export success has really opened up possibilities for the company".
"Since January of this year our turnover has increased by 700%, which has put us in an excellent position to develop new markets and expand our product range", added Mcloone. Request free introductory details about products from UK Trade and Investment ...
