Taiyo Yuden has announced a new addition to its range of ultracompact inverters designed to drive four cold-cathode fluorescent tubes (CCFT) for LCD backlighting.

The new model LS680 employs Taiyo Yuden's design engineering techniques to provide the market's lowest profile CCFT inverter of its type.

With an overall height of just 10.0mm (0.39in), the super low-profile provides OEMs with a solution to meet the continuing miniaturisation design requirements of flat-panel displays.

The compact inverter measures only 160mm (6.3in) long by 34mm (1.34in) wide and has an input range of 10.8-13.2V DC and a total output of 16W.

With a built-in brightness control, a significant OEM design advantage, the module offers wide dimming capability either by PWM or DC voltage.

Manufactured in Taiyo Yuden USA's ISO9001-approved factory, the inverter has entirely surface-mounted components for improved reliability and more cost-effective production.
