Asahi Kasei Corp is to provide its Vorero SDK on Tao's rich client multimedia application platform, intent.

Asahi Kasei Corp is to provide its Vorero SDK on Tao's rich client multimedia application platform, intent.

Vorero is a highly respected and efficient, compact voice recognition engine interface.

The target markets include car navigation, PDAs, mobile terminals and other embedded devices.

Tao's intent is an extremely high performance, rich multimedia, binary portable platform that runs on the new Intel PXA250 application processor.

Intel's new processor is a strong candidate to be one of the leading hardware platforms for the next generation of mobile devices.

Tao's intent platform, which is language, operating system and hardware independent, provides a comprehensive software solution for the emerging round of mobile devices, running products such as PersonalJava, MIDP/CLDC, and powerful graphics, audio and browser solutions.

Justsystem's kanji conversion engine ATOK for Japanese localization is also a key part of Tao's platform portfolio.

With the porting of Asahi Kasei's voice recognition engine Vorero, intent further solidifies its software platform infrastructure, increasingly equipped to meet and lead the expectations of consumers, content and application developers, carriers and OEMs.

Vorero is composed of a suite of highly efficient software libraries.

Features include: a remote microphone that can be used with a high degree of recognition even in noise-filled environments; an effective voice interface that is close to standard daily language usage; and compact software libraries with a small memory requirement.

Francis Charig, Executive Chairman of Tao said, "Asahi Kasei's reputation and leadership in this field of voice recognition, and the importance of this technology to so many of our target market areas, makes it an ideal partner for Tao.

Vorero adds to our range of input technologies from blue chip players now running on intent.

When combined with the powerful professional and consumer multimedia software for client devices and the extraordinarily fast Java solutions that we deliver, it is understandable why there is such momentum now to use intent across so many appliances by many of the leading manufacturers of electronic client devices".

Marketing Director of Intel's PCA Components Group, Mark D Casey commented, "Users want a user interface that is high speed and easy to use.

And device makers require highly memory efficient software libraries so that they can provide more attractive products within a short time to market.

We are glad that we can contribute to make a wireless terminal that meets the user's demands, with Tao's intent, Asahi-Kasei's voice recognition engine, and the high performance with multimedia function and low power consumption of the Intel PXA250 application processor".

The combination of Vorero and intent will enable the creation of new and compelling applications for the target devices by effectively combining these with the multimedia capabilities of the Intel PXA250 application processor.

Both parties will closely and extensively collaborate worldwide.
