NEC Electronics, Zentek Technology Group and Tao Group will demonstrate Zentek's MediaStack-MHP for EMMArchitecture2 product with Tao's Intent platform at the International Broadcasting Convention.

NEC Electronics, Zentek Technology Group and Tao Group will demonstrate Zentek's MediaStack-MHP for EMMArchitecture2 product with Tao's Intent platform at the International Broadcasting Convention starting next week in Amsterdam IBC is the "World Cup" of the broadcast industry, where the latest technical developments are unveiled

The Zentek product demonstrates the first generation of a new class of client solutions that can, in the future, be upgraded to full personal video recorders (PVR).

Thanks to Zentek's experience in testing and validation and to Tao's certified products, the goal of interoperability among applications for all MHP broadcasts becomes demonstrable, an objective that until now had been largely an aspiration.

MediaStack-MHP is the Zentek product family of portable multimedia home platform (MHP) software solutions.

These products enable delivery of enhanced digital television applications and services in digital broadcast streams for markets that follow digital video broadcast (DVB) standards.

The market for DVB products continues to grow with support from countries outside the USA, including South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Germany, Finland and China.

"As standards based on DVB MHP start taking hold in key digital television markets around the globe, it is crucial that flexible reference designs become available.

NEC Electronics, Zentek and Tao have been working together to provide such an offering", said Daniel Tanniere, General Manager, Mobile and Consumer Business Unit, NEC Electronics.

EMMArchitecture2 is part of the second generation of NEC's integrated digital television devices, which range from very-low-cost television set-top box solutions to DVD recorders.

This flagship product in NEC's line-up of system-on-chip, set-top box products has been deployed by several pay-TV operators and retail manufacturers.

EMMArchitecture2 allows for future upgrades to two-tuner PVRs and cable modems.

The device, which operates at broadband speeds and includes advanced video and graphics support, is ideally suited to cost-sensitive set-top box manufacturers and broadcasters.

"Together we have developed an integrated client reference solution that reduces MHP development risk for digital set-top box and television manufacturers", said Shozo Ohtani, President and Chief Executive Officer, Zentek Technology Group.

"Zentek is delighted to name NEC Electronics and Tao as Zentek MHP development partners.

We look forward to delivering production product to our mutual customers".

Tao Group has developed Intent, a binary, portable, language-independent, high-performance multimedia platform that is now used by many of the world's leading OEMs.

Tao Group's intent is independent of operating systems, hardware and programming languages; it allows manufacturers the freedom to choose different building blocks for each device while maintaining cross-device functionality.

"Tao's Intent multimedia platform is now a major player for the current generation of client devices", said Francis Charig, Chairman and Chief Executive, Tao Group.

"While Tao's spotlight has always been first on the consumer and second on the technology, our Intent offering is further strengthened by products delivered in collaboration with world-leading semiconductor and software companies such as NEC Electronics and Zentek.

By using Intent, all of these products can be delivered within a single, integrated, scalable platform".

NEC Electronics and Tao Group will be demonstrating Zentek's MediaStack-MHP for EMMArchitecture2 with Tao Group's Intent for MHP on Stand 222 in Hall 1, at IBC from 12th to 16th September 2003.
