Altium has released the first service pack (SP1) for Protel DXP, which is available for download free of charge to all Protel DXP users.

Altium has released the first service pack (SP1) for Protel DXP, which - following the discontinuation last month of the company's Altium Total Support programme - is available for download free of charge to all Protel DXP users The first service pack for Protel DXP, developed in close consultation with Protel DXP users, contains a number of new features and enhancements, as well as addressing issues identified in the original release

"Making service packs free to all users demonstrates our commitment to providing the real choices and flexibility that our customers have asked for", says Nick Martin, Joint CEO and founder of Altium.

"The feedback from our Protel DXP users has also been a key determinant of the features that we have added, enhanced and fixed in this service pack.

These additional features will benefit all users' productivity with increased ease of use and a more stable product".

Among the new features added are net ties, which give users the ability to connect two or more nets in a controlled way, and a selection memory that allows a designer to store and recall up to eight sets of selected objects.

Service Pack 1 also enhances Protel DXP's multichannel design capabilities to include support for multilevel multichannel design.

This brings the power and flexibility of a hierarchical approach to multichannel design, with full support for double-sided step-and-repeat component placement on the PCB.

These new features and enhancements are among the many improvements made in response to user requests, making design easier and giving designers more freedom to design the way they want to.

Service Pack 1 for Protel DXP is available for download from the Protel website at www.protel.com/resources/downloads/ and is available free of charge to all Protel DXP users - including those evaluating trial versions of the product.

Details of the new features and enhancements included in the service pack are also available on the Protel website.
