New from Tyco Electronics Power Systems is the 3A Austin MiniLynx Series of DC/DC convertors.

New from Tyco Electronics Power Systems is the 3A Austin MiniLynx Series of DC/DC convertors These nonisolated point-of-load (POL) convertors are available with an input voltage range of 2.4 to 5.5V DC or 8.3 to14V DC

With a wide input voltage range from 8.3 to 14V DC, the 12V-input Austin MiniLynx convertor is designed to support intermediate bus voltage architectures and point-of-load (POL) currents up to 3A with an output voltage range from 0.75 to 5.5V DC.

The 3.3/5V-input Austin MiniLynx convertors support output voltages from 0.75 to 3.3V DC with output current capacity up to 3A without any thermal derating at 85C and zero airflow, exhibiting outstanding thermal performance.

Efficiencies of 91% for 12V-input modules and 94% for 5V-input modules are achieved when tested at nominal input conditions and full rated output current.

Offered in SMT packages, both versions are pin-for-pin compatible with the widely used 5A Austin MicroLynx convertors.

With output voltage programming by an external resistor, the Austin MiniLynx modules have remote on/off (negative or positive) capability, making it easier for designers to implement power on/off control.

"With the introduction of the Austin MiniLynx Series, Tyco Electronics offers more choices to design engineers in meeting onboard power needs, covering load requirements from 3 to 25A with our offering of nonisolated convertors".

"Austin MiniLynx modules provide a migration path to higher-current modules in the same pinouts".

"They also provide an excellent alternative to discrete designs on boards by saving design time and providing low-cost solutions", said Sabi Varma, Vice President, Marketing and Business Operations at Tyco Electronics Power Systems.

The Austin MiniLynx convertors measure just 20.3 x 11.4 x 7.27 mm, and are offered in tape and reel for automated production.

Robust construction enables the modules to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +85C and can withstand industry standard handling, cleaning and soldering processes.

Additional protection features include overcurrent, overtemperature and undervoltage lockout.

Austin MiniLynx convertor pricing in quantities of 1000 pieces starts at $4.28.

Samples are orderable now.
