Triband antennas provide elegant solutions
The MCA 1890 stripe tri-band and 1890 PA/SMB mini-patch are the latest additions to the Hirschmann Antennas range.
The TDC kit is supplied complete with a Siemens wireless module of the customer's choice, and is priced at just GBP 200-300, depending on the module required.
However, the DSB supports most current Siemens wireless modules covering GSM, GPS, GPRS, Edge and 3GSM (HSDPA) technologies, allowing further technologies to be evaluated using the same board simply by adding the appropriate module.
Supported Siemens modules are the TC63 quad band, TC65 quad band GSM with Java, MC75 quad band with Edge, AC75 automotive Edge module, XT65 quad band with Java and GPS, XT75 quad band with Edge, Java and GPS, HC15 HSDPA (3GSM) and HC25 HSDPA (3GSM).
In addition to the DSB and a module, the kit includes a power supply and relevant cables along with software, utilities and a driver CD.
TDC's development board has been put together with the engineer in mind and has several useful test points, jumper connectors, and LEDs to aid the design/evaluation process.
In addition to these features, every single pin of the module can be accessed directly via an array of pin headers wired to mimic their surface mount counterparts.
To make it easy to find the signals required TDC has included as many useful labels onto the board as possible and provide full circuit diagrams.
The board has all of the most commonly used interfaces available including two RS232 ports, USB, audio, I2C and SPI.
The second serial port can easily be configured as a null modem connection using a simple slider switch making it ideal for interfacing GPS receivers and data loggers.
For those interested in the power supply side of things a battery charging circuit is provided along with a fairly flexible power supply circuit which allows for a certain amount of experimentation including the use of super caps.
The board can be powered by either the power supply included or a 9-15V bench supply via the 4mm sockets.
For engineers requiring a type-approved statutory reference design, TDC offers Siemens evaluation boards priced from GBP 700.
