Varistor arrays save space in handheld
protection
Varistor arrays are ideal for cellphones, HDDs and other portable electronic devices needing smaller devices that can suppress the static electricity of a high-frequency signal circuit.
TDK Corporation has announced the latest addition to its AVR-M 14A2 series of array chip varistors These small varistor arrays are ideal for cellphones, HDDs, and other portable electronic devices where customers need smaller devices that can suppress the static electricity of a high-frequency signal circuit

Component library is free to design customers
TDK and Ansoft Corporation have announced the release of a new library for TDK's capacitor, inductor, common mode filter, and ferrite bead components for use in Ansoft Designer.
Wire-wound inductors go lead-free
The NLV32 and NLCV32 SMD are lead-free wire-wound inductors for signal lines.
The components are among the world's smallest (1.4 x 1.0mm).
The new array chip varistor is designed to replace the traditional combination of a Zener diode and a capacitor, resulting in a reduction in the number of parts.
This means that engineers benefit from a reduced total footprint and reduced mounting costs.
As well as being smaller, the array chip varistors offer improved electrostatic absorption capability, by providing low capacitance values (3.3-60pF).
The new range can withstand high static electricity voltage, making it the ideal solution for ESD suppression in handheld devices, as well as applications such as automotive and audio/video.
The components boast no polarity, due to symmetrical current-voltage characteristics, and they retain these symmetrical current-voltage characteristics even after electrostatic absorption.
The array chip varistors are equivalent to anode common type Zener/TVS diodes but their response is as good or better than these diodes.
The lead-free AVR-M 14A2 series is an array type varistor with two integrated chips in a 1410 package.
The nickel barrier and tin plating result in excellent mounting characteristics.
The varistors achieve good solderability and solder heat resistance, and are ideal for lead-free soldering.
