TDK releases miniature chip varistor

A TDK Electronics product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Apr 21, 2009

TDK Electronics Europe has introduced the AVF26BA12A400R201, a miniature chip varistor that uses a ball grid array (BGA) terminal arrangement to reduce board mounting area by 33 per cent.

Although just 2.6mm x 2.6mm x 0.65mm, the AVF26BA12A400R201 offers electrostatic discharge (ESD) counter-measures and an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter function.

Each chip contains 30 elements and can be used to create 10-line ESD counter-measures.

The capacitance value of the chip is 40pF at 1MHz.

The device is 33 per cent smaller than previous generations of TDK chip varistors, and because of its integrated EMI filtering capability it provides further space savings by eliminating the requirement for separate EMI counter-measure components.

The AVF26BA12A400R201 is sampling now, with volume production scheduled to begin in the second half of 2009.
