Benchmark Electronics has selected the Teradyne GR Pilot LX fixtureless flying prober test system, and Teradyne GR Force/A3 test and inspection data preparation solution.

Benchmark Electronics has selected the Teradyne GR Pilot LX fixtureless flying prober test system, and Teradyne GR Force/A3 test and inspection data preparation solution as its standard for the testing of PCB prototypes at its design and new product introduction (NPI) centre in, Cork, Ireland As a fixtureless flying prober system, the Teradyne GR Pilot LX eliminates the need to build test fixtures or mechanical adapters for printed circuit board (PCB) testing

This enables manufacturers to accelerate products to market and reduce development costs.

With the largest test area of any flying prober test solution in the industry today, the Teradyne GR Pilot LX now makes it possible for PCB manufacturers to realize cost savings when developing the large printed circuit boards found in computer servers, the internet and networking industries.

Benchmark Electronics' Cork facility is a novel design and new product introduction centre.

It has a multidisciplined design group experienced in managing product quality, time to market and cost targets in projects from product definition to volume manufacture, including design maintenance to meet changing customer demands during the product lifecycle.

"Our dedicated prototype lab guarantees a three to five-day turnaround on new designs, subject to materials availability", said Andrew Barrett, design engineering manager for Benchmark Electronics in Ireland.

"The prototype lab works with customers in confirming design integrity, manufacturability, and testability, with a quick turnaround time to reduce time-to-market.

The Teradyne GR Pilot LX is a key component in the operation.

Ease of use in programming is critical for quick turnaround, and Teradyne's products meet all our criteria".

The Teradyne GR Pilot LX is designed to significantly improve prototype verification and electronics production line performance while reducing manufacturing costs.

It gives manufacturers greater test flexibility and enables the testing of PCBs as large as 24 by 24in.

"Teradyne's GR Pilot LX comes standard with Teradyne GR Force/A3, our new test and inspection data preparation solution, together they are a perfect solution for a rapid prototyping environment", said James Ficaro, business manager of the Teradyne Assembly Test Division's (ATD) Electrical Manufacturing Test Solutions unit.

"The Teradyne GR Pilot LX provides the largest test area available in a flying prober solution, eliminates the need for costly fixture development and gives PCB manufacturers greater overall test flexibility.

Our Teradyne GR Force/A3 accelerates the development process by bringing CAD design data into the manufacturing environment and performing front-end program generation operations that used to take minutes or even hours in merely seconds".
