Basestation analyser goes to the Edge

Tektronix has added Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (Edge) capabilities to its market-leading handheld NetTek base analyser, the only basestation tester to offer a toolbox feature set.

Tektronix has added Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (Edge) capabilities to its market-leading handheld NetTek base analyser, the only basestation tester to offer a toolbox feature set This addition enables GSM operators to easily meet the new measurement requirements presented in deployed Edge networks

Edge technology provides operators with a cost-effective way to offer advanced data services within existing spectrum.

Deployment cost is low because Edge does not require a 3G licence, and it uses the existing frame structures and carrier bandwidths from GSM networks.

However, once the Edge network is deployed, operators must ensure that it is successfully maintained in order to retain and increase mobile subscribers and achieve return on investment.

To effectively enable operators to meet these requirements, Tektronix has added Edge support to its proven handheld NetTek analyser's portfolio of daily maintenance measurement capabilities.

Tektronix is the first manufacturer to offer Edge measurements in a handheld toolbox form factor.

"With the addition of Edge capabilities, Tektronix continues to offer the most comprehensive set of standards for wireless maintenance activities", said Mark Kulper, General Manager, Wireless Field Test, Tektronix.

"The toolbox characteristics of the Tektronix NetTek Analyser enable operators to meet the technical demands of the newest technologies and subscriber expectations", he added.

Error vector magnitude (EVM) measurements critical for Edge networks The NetTek enables operators to evaluate the RF interface for Edge services, which helps to ensure a positive subscriber experience with data throughput.

By measuring error vector magnitude (EVM) and carrier-to-interference (C/I), essential measurements in Edge networks, technicians can determine if the RF portion of the network is performing optimally and immediately address any degradation issues.

The NetTek analyser is a rugged portable platform with multi-standard measurement capability.

The NetTek fills the gap between expensive, full-compliance testing tools and low-cost instruments designed to perform only one measurement.

The instrument's modular architecture supports a range of BTS transmitter measurements for standards including UMTS/WCDMA, Edge, GSM, cdma2000 1x EV-DO, cdma2000, cdmaOne (IS-95) and IS-136.

The instrument's Windows-based user interface simplifies operation and minimises training needs.

The compact battery-powered tool, which weighs just over 4kg, and is rugged for transport to remote sites. Request a free brochure from Tektronix ...
