Tester gets the measure of wireless basestations
Tektronix has developed a new compact, modular instrument designed to simplify routine field installation and maintenance measurement tasks in wireless networks.
The oscilloscopes include both Tektronix OpenChoice PC communication software and National Instruments SignalExpress Tektronix Edition interactive measurement software, the latter featuring true USB plug-and-play oscilloscope-to-PC connectivity.
Both the TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series are priced to meet the budget constraints of users with applications as varied as basic electronic repair tasks, automated production test and monitoring of environmental sensors, and design and debug of microprocessors.
The ultralightweight, portable package saves valuable space on the engineer's bench and makes these instruments ideal for use by service and repair technicians in the field.

Tektronix has announced an important new option for testing mobile handsets for General Packet Radio System (GPRS) compliance.
"Whether it's cellphones or home computers, design engineers are constantly testing new forms of technology, documenting their results and sharing that information with colleagues", said Bob Bluhm, Vice President, Value Scope Product Line, Tektronix.
"Our customers shared with us what they'd like to see in a value oscilloscope and we designed the TDS1000B and TDS2000B with a variety of features including a full complement of USB ports and connectivity options that make their lives easier and their work more productive".
The TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series further enhances productivity by providing three different ways for engineers to quickly and easily capture measurement results.
A front panel USB host port conveniently allows an engineering technician at a job site to use a USB Flash drive to capture waveform data, waveform images, and instrument setups.
At the bench, seamless oscilloscope-to-PC connectivity using the USB device port and a choice of two industry leading PC communications software packages simplifies capturing, analysing and sharing measurements.
The USB device port can also be used for printing with any PictBridge compatible printer, enabling printing with the push of one button.
The TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series include two PC communication software packages, Tektronix OpenChoice PC Communication software and NI SignalExpress Tektronix Edition interactive measurement software.
OpenChoice PC Communication software provides a simple user interface to pull screen images and waveform data into a stand-alone desktop application or directly into Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
Additionally, Tektronix has again teamed with National Instruments to offer NI SignalExpress Tektronix Edition which features industry-leading USB plug-and-play oscilloscope-to-PC connectivity.
Using USB, an auto-detect USB plug-and-play dialog appears on the PC immediately on connecting to a TDS1000B or TDS2000B oscilloscope.
A single click of the mouse then connects NI SignalExpress Tektronix Edition to the oscilloscope to immediately begin capturing live measurement data and displaying on the PC, resulting in faster time to information and insight.
"National Instruments and Tektronix share the goal of helping engineers and technicians become more productive", said Tim Dehne, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at National Instruments.
"The USB plug-and-play connectivity of the TDS1000B and TDS2000B greatly simplifies instrument configuration, and users can quickly access live measurements with the NI SignalExpress Tektronix Edition software".
European list prices for the TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series range from GBP 521 or Eur 780 for the TDS1001B model to GBP 1400 or Eur 2100 for the TDS2024B model.
All are available for purchase and delivery.
NI SignalExpress Tektronix Edition Base version is included free of charge with the TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series.
A 30-day trial of the Professional version is included with each instrument.
Users can upgrade to the NI SignalExpress Tektronix Edition Professional version for a European MSRP of GBP 597 or Eur 896 which provides additional signal processing, advanced analysis, mixed signal, sweeping, limit testing, and user-defined step capabilities.
