The software provides a bill of materials, reference schematic, loop response graphs and an efficiency curve based on the designer's inputs.
External inductors and capacitors are chosen from the tool's database of components (users can also add their favorite components to the database).
"As processor core voltages drop, the 3.3V bus is becoming more popular at higher current levels", said Rich Nowakowski, product marketing manager, TI Power Management Products.
"TI's high-performance TPS54910 Swift DC/DC convertor will make designing point-of-load power supplies from the 3.3V bus easier, faster and smaller".
The TPS54910 offers high output current while providing integrated protection features, such as power good, overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown and undervoltage lockout.
An integrated synchronous rectifier and a low 15mohm on-resistance of the power mosfets enable the device to achieve efficiencies greater than 95%.
To address an application's switching noise sensitivity, the switching frequency can be one of two preset values or adjusted anywhere between the range of 280 to 700kHz.
Additionally, exceptional heat transfer resulting from TI's PowerPAD package enables up to three times the thermal performance of other packaging without the need for bulky heatsinks.
In addition to the TPS54910, other fixed or adjustable output voltage versions of the Swift family of DC/DC convertors are available with 2.0% total accuracy.
The Swift software development tool is available for free and can be downloaded from TI's power management website power.ti.com/swift.
To further help system developers with designing power supply solutions, TI offers evaluation modules, reference designs and other support collateral to reduce the power management design burden.
Samples of the TPS54910 are available now with volume production planned for May.
The device is packaged in 28-pin PowerPAD thin shrink small outline package (6.4 x 9.7mm) for thermal enhancement and space savings.
Suggested resale pricing is $5.69 each in quantities of 1000.
