DSP effectively triples VoP port capacity

Sonus Networks has implemented TI's DSP technologies in its carrier-class media gateway, the GSX9000 open services switch.
TI's TMS320C5441 voice-optimised DSP enables Sonus to deliver the high level of density to support greater numbers of end users on service providers' networks.
TI's C5441 DSP architecture allows Sonus to provide high voice over packet (VoP) capacity in a small footprint, which enables service providers worldwide to increase their revenue from VoP services while reducing their cost of infrastructure equipment.
In February, Sonus introduced the Release 4.0 version of the GSX9000, which features new circuit modules using TI's C5441 voice-optimised DSPs.
With the new higher density T3 interfaces, as well as optical interfaces such as STM-0 (synchronous transport mode) and STM-1, Sonus effectively triples the port capacity of the award-winning GSX9000.
Sonus' GSX9000 open services switch exceeds carrier expectations for media gateway functionality, meeting or exceeding toll quality voice transport standards.
The GSX9000, which leverages a distributed processing architecture, is network equipment building standards (NEBS) Level 3-certified and is fully redundant for central office deployment in a variety of configurations from small points of presence (PoPs) to large global networks.
The GSX9000 supports any-to-any connectivity, and can provide media gateway capabilities in third-party softswitch-based networks.
"We architected our solution set with the requirements of the world's largest service providers in mind", said Mike Hluchyj, founder and chief technology officer, Sonus Networks.
"Working with TI, we have continued to raise the bar on density and scalability for carrier-class media gateways.
The combination of the latest DSP technology from TI and the GSX9000's mature, fully featured software make it particularly well-suited for deployment with major carriers worldwide".
"The voice over packet market remains a significant growth opportunity as carriers continue their migration to next-generation voice infrastructures, and we are excited to provide Sonus with the most advanced DSP solutions optimised for their voice products", said Fred Zimmerman, director, VoP platforms, TI's VoP Business Unit.
"By providing DSP technology with leading performance, low-power and reduced footprint requirements, TI is enabling Sonus to provide the highest densities to meet the needs of carriers worldwide".
