Echo canceller meets carrier grade
requirements
AT and T's Voice Quality Assessment Laboratory has ranked TI's Telogy Software echo canceller as carrier grade.
AT and T's Voice Quality Assessment Laboratory has ranked TI's Telogy Software echo canceller as carrier grade The echo canceller, part of TI's complete Telogy Software voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) software and silicon solution, underwent an extensive series of performance evaluations at AT and T's Middletown, New Jersey lab, resulting in its verification as carrier grade

A new technology from Texas Instruments dramatically cuts the cost and complexity of bringing the high-speed datarates of optical networking to end users.
"This latest milestone for TI demonstrates its continued commitment to providing customers carrier class VoIP silicon and software solutions", said Norm Bogen, director of communications infrastructure and services, In-Stat/MDR.
"For TI's Telogy Software echo canceller to have passed AT and T's performance requirements is quite an accomplishment.
Customers can take this to mean that the voice quality of packet-based networks using the Telogy echo canceller are up to the highest standards in the industry".

TI's Telogy echo canceller underwent a series of rigorous tests including G.168 testing, a speech signal based analogue of the G.168 tests that yields mean opinion score (MOS) results, tone disabling testing and a PCM transparency test.
For purposes of comparison, the echo canceller was evaluated against the results of two reference echo cancellers that have been widely deployed and are considered "carrier grade".
"We're extremely pleased with the results of these independent tests of our echo canceller", said Bogdan Kosanovic, manager, echo cancellation, TI's VoIP Business Unit.
"Our years of development in this area have resulted in balancing performance in a voice over packet environment with an extremely high level of quality of service (QOS).
Having AT and T conduct these assessments of our echo cancellation technology further assures our customers that they are offering the highest possible level of quality in products designed for carrier networks".
Recognising the importance of echo cancellation, TI sought and received carrier-class ranking for its Telogy Software echo cancellation solution.
Earlier this year, TI acquired Ditech's industry-recognised Telinnovation echo-cancellation software and software team, to further strengthen TI's leadership in echo cancellation technology.
This acquisition immediately gave TI a world-class stand-alone echo cancellation solution.
Furthermore, by combining the strengths of these two teams, TI can assure its customers the highest quality features for both integrated and stand-alone echo cancellation solutions.
One of the greatest challenges with deploying voice over packet-enabled networking equipment remains quality of voice.
End users have come to accept packet voice solutions when the level of quality equals that of the traditional circuit switched network.
While echo cancellation is required in VoIP deployments, successfully executing it is challenging when providing a carrier grade level of quality.
However, it is believed that continuously improved voice quality enhancements, including echo cancellation devices, will propel wider and larger scale VoIP deployments throughout the industry.
