Four DACs shrink to a third of the size
A new 16bit quad digital-to-analogue convertor from Texas Instruments offers miniature packaging and low-power operation.
A new 16bit quad digital-to-analogue convertor (DAC) from Texas Instruments offers miniature packaging and low-power operation.
This low-cost data convertor is ideal for portable, low-power systems such as industrial process control, portable instrumentation, closed-loop monitoring and control, data acquisition and PC peripherals.
The DAC8534 uses a single 2.7 to 5.5V supply and consumes only 950uA of power at 5V.
The device also offers a per-channel power-down mode, accessed over a flexible serial interface, which reduces maximum supply current to a mere 1uA.
A power-on reset circuit ensures that the DACs power up at zero volts and remain there until a valid write occurs.
"The DAC8534 stands alone in the industry as the smallest, lowest power quad channel 16bit DAC.
By reducing package size and cost by 66% versus the nearest competition, TI has established a new price/performance point in the DAC market", said David Russell, Strategic Marketing Engineer for TI's DAC products.
The DAC8534 features true 16bit monotonic performance, 10us settling time within +/-0.003% of the full-scale output range, and -100dB AC and DC crosstalk performance.
Each on-chip precision output amplifier allows rail-to-rail output performance.
The device uses a versatile three-wire serial interface compatible with standard SPIT, QSPIT, and Microwire interfaces, as well as TI's TMS320T DSP family.
It is capable of clock frequencies up to 30MHz and supports simultaneous or sequential output channel updating (up to 16 channels).
The DAC8534 comes in a TSSOP-16 package and is available now from TI and its authorized distributors.
Suggested resale pricing is $9.75 in 1000 piece quantities.
