Texas Instruments has unveiled two new triple-output plug-in power solutions for asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) applications.
The AR5 router software package allows service providers to quickly distribute residential class routers to customers with minimal software installation by users, significantly reducing deployment costs.
The Linux-based router software includes optimised feature sets with support for basic router protocols, including network address translation (NAT), application layer gateways (ALG), point-to-point protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE), Internet protocol security (IPSEC) pass thru for security, and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP).
While customers can go directly to market with the TI Linux turnkey router, customers can also leverage the world's largest online development community to easily differentiate and update their TI Linux based router.
Additionally, the AR5 router software package is based on TI's core software for DSL, cable and wireless networking, allowing customers to leverage the software knowledge across multiple broadband technology products.
"As service providers move toward deploying routers, rather than traditional Ethernet bridge modems, they will require an optimized, cost-effective solution for widespread deployment", said Greg Jones, general manager of TI's DSL business unit.
"The AR5 router software package leverages TI's system expertise and interoperability to help manufacturers meet those requirements, while providing the flexibility to include wireless networking and voice over packet (VoP) capabilities as the market grows".
TI's AR5 family now provides manufacturers a complete ADSL router reference design solution, from the network stack to the silicon.
The router software package runs on TI's broadband communications processor which is combined with TI's programmable DSP and analogue-based DSL physical layer (PHY) technology with proven worldwide interoperability.
The communications processor shares a common architecture with TI's other broadband products enabling additional flexibility and design reuse for broadband OEMs.
The AR5 software router package is sampling to customers now.
