A novel multiplatform fingerprint authentication development tool (FADT) will help designers build authentication systems with improved accuracy by leveraging the DSP architecture best suited to complex image processing The FADT is a flexible tool that when combined with TI's DSP starter kits (DSKs) and evaluation modules (EVMs) on both the TMS320C5000 and TMS320C6000 platforms, forms a complete fingerprint authentication development environment

Data buffer has dual multiplexer
Texas Instruments has introduced the industry's first 0- to 4-Gbps data buffer/signal conditioner with a dual multiplexer.
Reference design for wireless optical comms
A new technology from Texas Instruments dramatically cuts the cost and complexity of bringing the high-speed datarates of optical networking to end users.
The FADT is an ideal development tool for both entry-level and experienced designers, and its flexibility allows designers to choose from a range of integrated solutions.
Developers also have access to TI's robust suite of eXpressDSP software and development tools that allows them to get their product to market quickly.
"The new FADT is unique in the industry because it allows for such flexibility when it comes to configuration of the development environment", said Ram Sathappan, Biometrics Solutions Manager, TI.

TI adds low-cost and high-integration DSP pair
Texas Instruments has unveiled the latest pair of programmable DSPs in its ultra-power-efficient TMS320C55x family of digital signal processors.
Triple-output power modules shrink ADSL designs
Texas Instruments has unveiled two new triple-output plug-in power solutions for asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) applications.
"We have given our customers a low-cost solution that can be used in conjunction with other DSP-based technology to quickly deliver high-performance biometric products".
The FADT works seamlessly with a range of TI and TI third party DSP development boards.
Customers can choose from the: TMS320C5510 DSP starter kit; TMS320C6711 DSP starter kit; TMS320C6713 DSP starter kit; and TMS320C5509 evaluation module.
"Accuracy and speed are the most important attributes of biometric technology because they give end users what they want: more convenience and better security", said Lennart Carlson, CEO at Fingerprint Cards.
"We are excited to be working with TI to make this a reality".
OEMs and biometrics product manufacturers can get further help by leveraging the expertise of TI's third parties, such as Spectrum Digital, which has developed hardware that works seamlessly with TI DSPs.
Customers can also license and use application software for production directly from third party Fingerprint Cards whose "distinct area detection" verification algorithm and FPC1010 capacitive fingerprint sensor are included for evaluation as part of the FADT package.
Additional support software is also available for licensing directly from TI's extensive third-party network.
Priced at $245, the TMDSFDCFPC10 is available today through TI distributors and the e-store, as are the C5510, C6711 and C6713 DSKs.
The DSKs are priced at $395 each.
The C5509 EVM is available through Spectrum Digital.
