According to figures from GfK, TI technology is consistently being chosen for new DAB radio designs by major companies, such as Hitachi, Roberts Radio, Acoustic Solutions and Intempo Digital.

According to the latest figures from GfK, independent auditor of the home electronics market, Texas Instruments technology is consistently being chosen for new DAB radio designs by major companies, such as Hitachi, Roberts Radio, Acoustic Solutions and Intempo Digital Spurred by the availability of receivers based on the TI-based RadioScape modules in September, the UK DAB radio market saw tremendous growth leading up to the Christmas 2003 holiday season

The GfK figures show that solutions based on TI and RadioScape technology outgrew competition from September to December of 2003, making it the most significant driving force for DAB receiver sales and capturing tremendous momentum in the market in just four months.

In December, there was a major peak in demand with 133,000 DAB radio sales, accounting for more than 44% of the total year's sales of 300,000.

TI and RadioScape played an integral role in this increase, achieving the industry's highest percentage of growth in the holiday season.

"The demand for DAB radio continues at an increased pace, with new models hitting the shops every week and most of them based on our modules", explained Nigel Oakley, VP of Marketing at RadioScape.

"Many big international brand names such as Hitachi are now launching DAB products, as they can see that the market demand is tremendous not only in the UK, but around the world".

"The key to the success of TI's solution is its feature integration", said Les Mable, Business Development Manager for Digital Radio, Texas Instruments.

"Our powerful DSP-based baseband running RadioScape's software enables innovative features for our customers, such as the world's first DAB receiver with fully integrated FM, the world's first triband module with L-band and integral alarm clock.

As these are all done in software, we will continue to set the pace for innovation in the future".
