Data buffer has dual multiplexer

Reference design for wireless optical comms
A new technology from Texas Instruments dramatically cuts the cost and complexity of bringing the high-speed datarates of optical networking to end users.
"The integration of four independent modulators featuring high accuracy, high resolution and low noise allows customers to precisely measure three-phase motor currents and a DC-link voltage simultaneously, thereby improving system-level performance", said Miroslav Oljaca, Strategic Marketing Manager for TI's motor control convertor products.
With the appropriate digital filter and modulator rate, the ADS1204 can be used to achieve 16bit analogue-to-digital conversion with no missing codes.
For higher speed measurements, effective resolution of 12bit can be obtained with a digital filter bandwidth of 160kHz at a modulator rate of 10MHz.
The device also offers +/-1LSB integral nonlinearity (INL), +/-1LSB differential nonlinearity (DNL), 0.5% gain error, onboard 20MHz oscillator and four input reference buffers.
The new ADS1203 is a single-channel delta-sigma modulator with 95dB dynamic range, 16bit resolution and a single +5V supply.
The device offers a +/-250mV input range to directly digitise current passing through current shunt resistors.
With an appropriate current shunt resistor, it is possible to measure the motor drive output current up to 70A (RMS).
An effective resolution of 14bit can be obtained with a digital filter bandwidth of 40kHz at a modulator rate of 10MHz.
Other features of the ADS1203 include +/-1LSB INL, +/-1LSB DNL, 1% gain error and a flexible serial interface with four different modes.
The ADS1204 and ADS1203 are both available now from TI and its authorised distributors.
The ADS1204 is packaged in a QFN-32 (5x5) and is priced from $6.75 in 1000-piece quantities.
The ADS1203 is packaged in a TSSOP-8 and is priced from $2.70 in 1000-piece quantities.
