Texas Instruments has shipped two million lines of Voice over Cable (VoCable) worldwide to date.

TI customers currently deploying the companys VoCable technology include market leaders ARRIS, Hitron, Bona Technologies and others.

According to a research report authored by Kinetic Strategies, there will be 16.2 million cable IP telephony subscribers by 2009, resulting in $15 billion in new voice subscription revenues for cable operators.

Kinetic Strategies also predicts 77 percent annual growth in voice-enabled cable modem equipment revenues during the same timeframe, leading to voice capability inclusion in more than 75 percent of all cable modems shipped by 2009.

"The VoCable market is set to explode over the next five years, and TI technology will help drive the global adoption of cable voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services," said Michael Harris, founder and principal analyst, Kinetic Strategies.

"TI has established itself as the top provider of VoCable platforms and is well-positioned to maintain that leadership, based on its full suite of broadband technology." "Along with achieving certification at CableLabs and tComlabs, success in the VoCable market requires field proven software and hardware in order to pass the rigorous qualification testing at cable operators and to provide a high-quality, highly-reliable service to consumers," said Brett Butler, general manager, TIs broadband cable business unit.
