Two new customers in China are using its the TI OMAP platform for local handsets Commit and Datang Mobile Communications Equipment have been added to TI's current China customer base, which includes leading OEMs Eastern Communications, and Lenovo Mobile, among others

These customers are using TI's OMAP platform to provide the latest in mobile entertainment and productivity applications on 2.5G and 3G mobile phones for the China marketplace.

Further reinforcing its commitment to drive wireless innovation and growth in China, TI is also putting a stronger concentration on local Linux support for China OEMs.

Throughout China and Asia, Linux has quickly become the preferred operating system (OS) of OEMs and governmental bodies.

TI's OMAP platform supports the industry-leading MontaVista Linux operating system and development platform to enable application developers and OEMs to quickly create OMAP processor-based, multimedia-enhanced applications for advanced wireless devices.

TI is extending its Linux strategy through members of its OMAP Developer Network to provide Linux frameworks for its OMAP processors with software plug-ins, User Interface (UI) configurability and a complete suite of development tools.

This allows a fully tested, fully functioning Linux environment that streamlines software development and delivers applications to the marketplace faster.

"China's mobile phone industry continues to experience new opportunities, and we are excited about growing our customer base and applications support in this thriving marketplace", said Paul Werp, TI Marketing Director, Cellular Systems.

"TI is committed to enabling multimedia and productivity-enhancing applications through its OMAP processors and to working with leading developers who are providing local support for Linux in China and throughout Asia, in order to get OEMs to market faster".

TI is demonstrating the Linux framework separately with two members of its OMAP Developer Network, Trolltech and China MobileSoft at this week's 3G World Congress at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Trolltech, an established player in the Linux space with strong momentum in China and throughout Asia, has taken its Linux expertise in the desktop space and applied it to mobile phones and other wireless devices.

In the TI booth at 3G World Congress, Trolltech is demonstrating Qtopia, its award-winning customisable development environment and user interface for Linux-based mobile phones and PDAs, on the TI OMAP730 processor.

In China, Qtopia is also part of Datang Mobile's Linux mobile phone reference platform, and it is the software foundation for Yuhua Teltech's Normandy Linux handset.

China MobileSoft (CMS) is China's leading provider of high-quality and cost-efficient software for smart phones and feature phones, offering OEMs and original design manufacturers (ODMs) complete, integrated software platforms and user-friendly applications.

China MobileSoft is demonstrating its mFone for Smart Phones platform using its own mLinux, running on the OMAP730 processor.
