Analyst group In-Stat has named a TI digital signal processor product the "Best DSP chip of 2004".
Crowned by In-Stat analysts in the coveted Microprocessor Report Analysts' Choice Awards for 2004, TI's TMS320C6416T DSP at 1GHz, the industry's first 90nm DSP: "wins for its performance at 1GHz, capable of processing higher frequency signals, or more channels per chip, its accelerators, and its system interconnect".
This award recognises TI's excellence in technology innovation, design and implementation.
"With the 1GHz TMS320C6416T DSP, TI continues to drive leadership in performance aiming at the growing market for very high throughput, yet modestly priced, DSPs".
"The 1GHz TMS320C6416T DSP from TI enables customers to create new applications and do more in telecom, wireless and video infrastructure", said Max Baron, Principal Analyst and Senior Editor, In-Stat.
With the release of the TMS320C641xT DSP product line, In-Stat says: "TI raised the bar on the performance of single processors".
First introduced in January 2004, TI is now shipping volume production 1GHz DSPs for novel applications ranging from smart cars to artificial vision products and emerging applications such as digital video infrastructure and digital imaging.
TI's process and product development teams are renowned for achieving the production of 1GHz DSPs on the 90nm process which has helped TI reduce the cost of the 720MHz processors by approximately 2x compared with 720MHz devices available the previous year.
"It is exceptional and we are truly excited that In-Stat has recognised our TMS320C6416T DSP as the 'Best DSP chip of 2004'".
"It is particularly gratifying since In-Stat is in the business to know the products in our industry", said Leon Adams, Worldwide Manager of DSP Product Marketing, TI.
"We have more than 70 customers actively developing and deploying TMS320C641xT-based end products, showing that fast growing market demand correlates well with In-Stat's recognition of this DSP".
