High-performance switch supports Gigabit Ethernet

Texas Instruments Incorporated has unveiled its first LAN switch that supports Gigabit Ethernet LAN switching.
With the majority of Notebook PCs on today's market requiring a method of switching Gigabit Ethernet LAN signals to a docking station, as well as Telecom Equipment requiring switching the Ethernet port from front to back of the rack, TI specifically set out to design a LAN switch with high bandwidth to assure Gigabit Ethernet speeds.
The TS3L301, 8-channel SPDT (2:1 Multiplexer/Demultiplexer) LAN Switch, provides industry-leading bandwidth (900 MHz Typ) for successful implementation in today's systems.
The TS3L301 is the highest-performance system solution of this type offered by TI.
In addition to the high bandwidth, the device offers low input/output capacitance (Con = 6pF Typ), low and flat ON-state resistance (ron = 4 Typ, ron (flat) = 0.7 Typ), and low differential crosstalk (XTALK = -41 dB Typ).
The low and flat On-state resistance prevents large signal variation and degradation across frequencies.
This is a key parameter in supporting LAN standard data rates for 10Base-T(10Mb/s), 100Base-T(100Mb/s), and 1000Base-T(1Gb/s).
This device also incorporates Ioff protection circuitry to help reduce power consumption.
Packaging, pricing, and availability - the TS3L301 is offered in both the 48 pin TSSOP (DGG) and the 48-pin TVSOP (DGV).
Both package offerings are Lead (Pb)-free and are backwards compatible to leaded manufacturing processes.
The TS3L301 is available to sample in both package options.
Budgetary pricing for the device is set at $2.00 in quantities of 1,000.
