Design engineers can register now on the TI website for a live Analog eLab webcast entitled "Power concerns for large computational devices: FPGAs and DSPs" Presented by Texas Instruments and Avnet, the webcast will air at 1700 BST on Wednesday 13th April 2005

This session, hosted by TI analogue expert Bill Klein, PE, will provide design engineers with an online lab environment for a discussion on theory and demonstrations at the lab bench.

Klein's guests for this webcast are Jeff Falin, Applications Engineer at TI, and Sarah St John, Senior Applications Engineer at Avnet.

The free, hour-long session will instruct viewers on designing a total power management solution for large computational devices.

Advanced field programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors create speed and performance challenges for designers.

The panel will discuss system-level and IC-level power management requirements as well as necessary tradeoffs that ensure systems are sufficiently powered.

This includes the selection of appropriate power ICs, passive components and the requirements of the processors.

During the lab segment, Klein and Falin will show performance results from tested and approved power management circuits for these advanced devices.

A special Q and A segment will follow the discussion and lab demonstrations.

Viewers are welcome to e-mail their questions to Klein for on-air ideas and recommendations.

Bill Klein is a Senior Applications Engineer with the High Performance Linear Division of TI.

He joined TI through its acquisition of Burr-Brown in August 2000.

Author of over 50 magazine articles, application notes and conference papers, Klein also has a monthly column: "A call i took last week" on Planet Analog.

His experience as an analogue circuit designer covers 30 years in fields ranging from mineral exploration to medical nuclear imaging.

Jeff Falin received his MSEE from the University of Tennessee.

He joined TI in January 2000 as an Applications Engineer with the Portable Power Applications Group within the High Performance Analog Division.

During the past three years, the focus of Falin's work has been on developing power solutions specifically for FPGAs and DSPs.

In addition, Falin has authored several magazine articles and application notes.

Sarah St John holds a BSEE with a digital design minor from Northeastern University and is a Senior Applications Engineer with Avnet.

She has worked at Avnet's Boston office for 14 years.

Her experience includes hardware, software and RF design.

St John has also authored various application notes, technical training courses and a power supply design guide for Xilinx FPGAs.
