TI's latest high-performance TMS320C64xT DSP generation has been selected by Inlet Technologies to power its newly-introduced VC-1 encoder, Fathom 2.0.

Emphasising the critical time and quality demands of post-production professionals, Texas Instruments has announced that its latest high-performance TMS320C64xT digital signal processor (DSP) generation has been selected by Inlet Technologies, a provider of professional encoding solutions for next-generation content distribution, to power its newly-introduced VC-1 encoder, Fathom 2.0 Fathom is a professional VC-1 encoder that delivers high-performance advanced compression to the post-production market

VC-1 is the proposed SMPTE standard video codec based on Windows Media 9.

Fathom is a comprehensive solution that combines a hardware encoding engine with workflow and analysis software to make next-generation distribution methods like HD-DVD, Blu-ray, video-on-demand and digital dailies a reality today.

By leveraging the flexibility and high-performance of TI's C64xT DSP, Fathom 2.0 delivers performance, precision and productivity to the post-production market.

This proprietary encoding platform, combined with TI's DSP-based technology, delivers the performance necessary to achieve real-time encoding of the Windows Media Video (WMV) 9 VC-1 format.
