Axis Communications has selected TI's high performance TMS320DM642 digital media processor to power its next generation of intelligent video products.

Axis Communications, a global leader in the network video market, has selected TI's high performance TMS320DM642 digital media processor to power its next generation of intelligent video products TI's technology integrated in Axis products makes it possible to move the intelligent decisions from central computers to the network cameras and networked video servers

With the processing power added by using TMS320DM642, Axis will be able to offer products that incorporate the latest in analytical capabilities and intelligent vision, which lead to reduced system requirements and overall cost of ownership for end users, while implementing the latest video surveillance intelligence.

With this technology, Axis' products will be able to use intelligent vision to identify activity, such as count people, recognise license plates and unattended bags in an airport.

"We chose this solution because of the processing power and programmability of TI's high-performance DM642 digital media processor", said Per Sten, Project Manager at Axis.

"With the addition of TI's DSP to Axis in-house developed chip Etrax and Artpec, we are able to have a future-proof design that we can easily migrate to next generation products and preserve our initial investment".

This device is ideal for cost-effective, high-performance DSP programming challenges, such as intelligent video solutions, as it handles up to 5760 million instructions per second (MIPS) at a clock rate of up to 720MHz.

"Axis' advanced network video server demonstrate the potential our DSP-based digital media processors offer the video surveillance market".

"By working with innovative partners, such as Axis, we are driving the availability and implementation of intelligent video surveillance for the mass market", said Cyril Clocher, Business Development Manager of TI DSP group in Europe.

"We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Axis and other customers who require sophisticated video technology".
