Reference design for wireless optical comms
A new technology from Texas Instruments dramatically cuts the cost and complexity of bringing the high-speed datarates of optical networking to end users.
The new 2.25A PTH08000W and 3A PTH04000W plug-in power modules support an adjustable output voltage range down to 0.9V at a power conversion efficiency up to 94%.
The flexible convertors' unique Auto-Track sequencing feature allows the outputs of multiple modules to track one another or a common voltage during power-up and power-down transitions.
The PTH08000W operates at input voltages from 4.5 to 14V, and can supply an output current of up to 2.25A with output voltages of 5.5 to 0.9V, making it ideal for systems that use a 12V intermediate distribution bus.
The 3A PTH04000W module supports input voltages from 3 to 5.5V, and can support output voltages from 0.9 to 3.6V.
The 3A module efficiently meets all power requirements for industrial, medical, and test and measurement systems that require a 3.3 or 5V distribution bus.
Both modules include several power protection features, including an on/off inhibit and thermal shutdown, overcurrent protection and undervoltage lockout.
The PTH08000W and PTH04000W power modules are available in volume today from TI and the company's authorised distributors.
Available in through-hole and low-profile, double-sided surface-mount packages, suggested pricing for the PTH08000W and PTH04000W are $4.50 per 1000 units.
