Texas Instruments will showcase the first public demonstration of its Hollywood mobile DTV single-chip solution at the 3GSM World Congress next week in Barcelona, Spain.

Texas Instruments will showcase the first public demonstration of its Hollywood mobile DTV single-chip solution at the 3GSM World Congress next week in Barcelona, Spain Visitors to the TI booth (Hall 8 Stand B14-B15) will experience live broadcast TV from the DVB-H network in Barcelona

The demonstration includes TI's DTV1000 Hollywood single-chip solution, TI's OMAP2420 device, PacketVideo's pvTV client solution and Silicon and Software Systems' (S3's) onHandTV DVB-H CBMS software stack.

The DVB-H standard provides a living room TV viewing experience in the palm of your hand and can achieve average 1.5 second channel switching time; 30-plus channels of live TV programming, audio content and pod casts; a long battery life of 3.5h-plus; and up to 30 frames per second delivery speed.

There are several DVB-H handsets on the market and more than 19 DVB-H network trials that have either concluded or are currently underway around the globe, including Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, the USA, Taiwan, and other countries.

It is expected that DVB-H commercial services will be deployed in Europe by the end of 2006 and that by the end of 2007 the DVB-H infrastructure in Europe, the USA and Asia will be built out and ready for wide-spread deployments.

To be demonstrated at 3GSM World Congress, TI's Hollywood chip plus OMAP2420 processor enable the reception and processing of the DVB-H signal.

TI's Hollywood chip is an integrated tuner, demodulator and decoder on one piece of silicon and offers the industry's smallest size, lowest bill of materials and low power consumption to drive mobile TV into mass market phones.

The Hollywood chip receives the DVB-H signal and outputs the IP video stream to the OMAP processor.

The OMAP2420 decodes the IP stream and renders the colour-rich video and stereo audio to the mobile phone's screen and speakers.

The OMAP2420 is a feature-rich applications processor capable of rendering the audio/video (30frame/s, HE AAC+) and managing security including conditional access (CA) and digital rights management (DRM) solutions.

PacketVideo's pvTV is a complete mobile digital TV client solution based on PacketVideo's proven video player framework, which has more than 120 handset design wins and more than 45 million units shipped via mobile service providers such as Verizon Wireless, NTT DoCoMo, Orange, 3 and Vodafone.

PacketVideo's pvTV Solution for DVB-H has two components: the pvTV client application software, and the pvTV reference hardware platform.

A powerful application framework and TV player, pvTV provides faster time to market for video-enabled mobile phones.

The pvTV solution facilitates efficient development, enables rapid porting and supports multiple operating systems (Linux, Symbian, RTOS).

In addition, the pvTV solution delivers high performance codecs for mobile TV (MPEG-4, AVC [H.264], AAC+, WMV, and WMA), Microsoft Janus DRM and OMA, and produces 30frame/s QVGA and 30frame/s CIF for clear, crisp images on mobile devices.

S3's onHandTV solution delivers a robust, proven middleware platform for mobile TV applications.

Since 2004, it has been delivering the key protocol stacks, middleware and applications required to rapidly deploy TV on mobile products compliant with emerging IPDC over DVB-H standards.

onHandTV combines a CBMS compliant feature set with operator adaptation packages (OAPs) tuned to meet the requirements of upcoming commercial networks and trials.
