Digital media processor powers i3 set top box
This week at the NAB trade show, i3 Micro Technology unveiled its third-generation Mood T Box (MMB3) IP-based set top box, enabling TV and video services over broadband access.
This distinction allows customers to integrate triple-play products on a single digital signal processor (DSP); to deploy innovative, digital media based products that offer real-time video over IP and to leverage performance that handles both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) support.
The DM642 provides the foundation required to bring HD video and audio to the video conferencing market and allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop and launch scalable systems faster.
"With expected growth of more than $2 billion by 2008, an HD roadmap is top priority for TI and an important capability to offer to our video telephony customers".

Digital media processor enters HD realm
Manufacturers of consumer electronics and set top boxes now have a clear path to delivering high definition streaming video with the new 720MHz version of the TMS320DM642 digital media processor.
"As the number one provider of silicon to this market, video telephony customers have adopted the DM642 DSP for their HD-based system designs", said Pradeep Bardia, Marketing Manager, Video Solutions, TI.
"We are very pleased that Internet Telephony has recognised our technology as one of the best in the industry".
Initially offering 1280 x 720 resolution, HD video conferencing will address many existing problems users have faced with previous video conferencing technology, such as reduced image resolution, poor sound quality, excessive setup complexity and limited bandwidth and processing resources.
Volume production 720MHz DM642 digital media processors have the integrated I/O and streaming capabilities to develop high-definition systems, and TI's knowledgeable third-party network supplies the necessary software for compressing and decompressing both audio and video technologies.
Third party network partners such as UB Video, Ittiam and WWComms provide H.264 Baseline profile video codec solutions while companies like E-Infochips and Ateme provide audio and video codec technologies along with systems integration support.
These capabilities will equip OEMs with the development tools needed to satisfy the high standards consumers have come to expect in HD systems.
"Each year Internet Telephony magazine bestows its Product of the Year awards on companies that have demonstrated excellence in technological advancement and application refinements".
"TI has demonstrated to the Editors of Internet Telephony that its products or services are committed to quality and innovation while addressing the real needs in the marketplace", said Rich Tehrani, Group Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Internet Telephony.
The Product of the Year Award winners for 2005 are highlighted in the January and February 2006 issues of Internet Telephony magazine.
