Linux option for low-power connectivity engine
The low-cost, extremely low-power VCE405 connectivity engine is now available with Linux support.
The low-cost, extremely low-power VCE405 connectivity engine is now available with Linux support.
The low power consumption of the VCE405 (typically 6.5W) eliminates the need for massive heatsinks or cooling fans and, with an operating range up to 85C using convection cooling, the VCE405 is ideal for space- and weight-constrained applications such as aerospace or medical equipment.
The 6U VCE405, an off-the-shelf connectivity engine based on the powerful 400 Dhrystone MIPS/266MHz IBM PowerPC 405GP 32bit RISC embedded controller, can be rapidly developed and deployed as a cost-effective high-performance custom system.
Additionally, the VCE405 connectivity engine features dual PMC slots that support 64bit PCIbuses for flexibility.
The Linux board support package (BSP) is based on a standard Linux 2.4 kernel compatible with the LynuxWorks BlueCat 4 cross compiler and tools.
The VCE405 is already available under VxWorks and LynxOS 4.0, which is the hard real-time Unix OS.
With Linux ABI from LynuxWorks, the VCE405 is a certified reference platform for LynxOS.
Linux is a Unix-like operating system, originally developed by Linus Torvalds, whose source code is distributed freely under a Gnu general public licence.
Its low-cost availability and compact modular kernel design have made it a favorite choice of software developers worldwide seeking to implement Unix-like characteristics in systems ranging from personal computers to embedded applications.
Pricing for the VCE405 with Linux support starts at $1605 per unit in 100-piece quantities.
The VCE405 is available immediately in all four environmental builds, including a rugged conduction-cooled version.
